If you experience chronic fatigue that cannot be explained by a lack of sleep or poor sleep hygiene, it could be that the quality of the sleep that you are getting is insufficient. If you experience any other sleep apnea symptoms in addition to fatigue, lack of energy, brain fog, or memory loss, we recommend scheduling a sleep study.
Common sleep apnea symptoms include:
- Constantly feeling exhausted
- Loud snoring
- Waking up with a dry or sore throat
- Frequent headaches
- Difficulty focusing
- Irritability or mood swings
Some factors that can increase a patient’s risk of developing sleep apnea include:
- Being overweight
- Being male
- Being over 50
- Being a smoker
- Frequently consuming alcohol
- Having a family history of sleep apnea
- Chronic nasal congestion
Patients who snore do not necessarily have sleep apnea, but it is one of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea. If your snoring is accompanied by periods of silence or waking up choking or gasping for air, it’s likely that your snoring is sleep apnea-related.
Untreated sleep apnea can lead to depression, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes. In serious cases, sleep apnea can even be fatal, which is why we recommend seeking treatment as soon as possible.
